The U.S. inflation rate in July was 3.2%, while GDP grew 2.1% year-on-year in the second quarter. The equivalent figures for the euro zone were 5.3% and 0.6%, respectively. It is a tale of two economies.

Measured at purchasing power parity — that is, adjusted for differences in the cost of living — the U.S. economy was 15 percent larger than the euro area economy in 2008; it's now up to 31 percent.
Euro zone inflation briefly hit double digit last autumn amid a combination of soaring energy costs, post-pandemic snags in supply chains and high government spending.
The lowest annual rates were registered in the Netherlands (-0.3%), Denmark (0.6%) and Belgium (0.7%). The highest annual rates were recorded in Hungary (12.2%), Romania (9.2%) and Slovakia (9.0%). Compared with August, annual inflation fell in twenty-one Member States, remained stable in one and rose in five.
Venezuela currently has the highest inflation rate in the world. On the other hand, Cameroon, a Central African country, has the lowest inflation rate in the world as of August 2023.
However the figures raise the question about whether UK inflation is stickier and more stubborn than elsewhere. At 8.7% in the UK, inflation is higher here than in France, Germany and US.
The United States of America
The United States upholds its status as the major global economy and richest country, steadfastly preserving its pinnacle position from 1960 to 2023. Its economy boasts remarkable diversity, propelled by important sectors, including services, manufacturing, finance, and technology.
Germany has a GDP (nominal) of $4,031.149 million; it occupies the top position among European countries by the size of its economy. The country retains its leading position as an exporter of machinery, appliances, and chemicals.
China's Gross Domestic Product is estimated to be approximately 38% larger than the GDP of the USA, when calculated using Purchasing Power Parity data and including estimates of the undervaluation of GDP due to an outdated base year, plus estimates of China's significant informal economy.
What is Germany's inflation?
Germany Inflation Rate is at 3.20%, compared to 3.80% last month and 8.80% last year. This is higher than the long term average of 2.00%.
The eurozone is teetering on the brink of a winter recession after the latest official figures showed its economy contracted by 0.1% in the third quarter of 2023.
Spain Inflation Rate is at 3.50%, compared to 3.30% last month and 7.30% last year. This is higher than the long term average of 2.31%.
World's Lowest Inflation Rates
Many of the lowest inflation rates around the world are located in Asia, including Macau, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. In this region, widespread lockdowns strained growth and consumer spending, lessening inflationary pressures.
The Post-World War II hyperinflation of Hungary held the record for the most extreme monthly inflation rate ever – 41.9 quadrillion percent (4.19 × 1016%; 41,900,000,000,000,000%) for July 1946, amounting to prices doubling every 15.3 hours.
The Spanish government has resorted to a number of unconventional fiscal policies to slow down the increase in prices. While many countries are almost solely relying on monetary policy to control inflation, Spain is instead resorting to economic policy.
Inflation allows borrowers to pay lenders back with money worth less than when it was originally borrowed, which benefits borrowers. When inflation causes higher prices, the demand for credit increases, raising interest rates, which benefits lenders.
Venezuela is the country with the highest inflation in the world, with an increase in consumer prices estimated at 360 percent in 2023, according to the latest figures from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), published in October.
China did offer some stimulus packages to help its beleaguered economy, such as the $44 billion package of credit support in August last year, but didn't go as far as other Western economies. Less cheap money injected into the system means lower inflation.
In the case of Germany, headline inflation over the summer months has been affected by several base effects: while lower energy prices exert downward pressure on inflation, the end of last summer's temporary government energy relief measures and cheap public transportation have added upward pressure.
