10 Fishing is a Mini-Game

Graveyard Keeper: 10 Things You Need To Know About Fishing (1)

Fishing is a mini-game that takes a bit of skill in order to win. The mini-game is the same as in Stardew Valley. A bar appears with a fish, and you control a green bar inside of that bar. To get the fish, you have to keep it inside of the green bar until the meter on the side feels up. The fish will attempt to escape from you by swimming up and down to escape your bar.

The rarer the fish, the more time you're going to need to spend trying to catch them. These fish will display faster patterns where they can suddenly jump up to throw you off their trail.

9 Collect Tons of Moths

In order to catch fish, though, you will have to activate and complete a side-quest to earn your first rod. Once you have some free time, head to the lighthouse at the far end of town and speak to the keeper. You will learn that he is an avid fisher and needs some moths to use as bait. Once you agree to the quest, go around picking flowers in the surrounding area at night.

With any luck each time you pick a flower, a moth will also appear. Once you have gathered six moths, you can return to the keeper during the day to trade them for your first rod.

8 There are 5 Fishing Spots

In the game, there are five different fishing spots that you will need to gain access to in order to collect all the fish. The first few spots are easy to access as they are the sea and the small pond in town. The other three spots won't become available until you do a bit of work. You will need to construct the stone bridge by your church to access the waterfall and swamp.

In order to get to the river fishing spot, though, you will need to clear the blockage on the cliff above your farm. These can still be done fairly early in-game, allowing you access to most of the fish.

7 Sixteen To Catch

In total, there are only sixteen fish to catch in Graveyard Keeper. While this may be a small amount in comparison to most games, catching them all can be a drawn-out process. Most every fish will have a different catch percentage making the rarer breeds like the Gold Crucian take several attempts to find even if your fishing in the right conditions and setting.

Make sure to check on the availability of each fish and the chances of catching them to spend the least amount of time on one breed of fish.

6 Bait is Important

Some fish are just going to be easier to catch if you dangle their favorite food in front of them. In the game, you can collect several different types of bait from a variety of sources. From flowers, you can collect moths at night like done in the fishing rod quest, and during the day time, you can collect butterflies. When you make compost, you will receive maggots, and you can use anchovies or gudgeon you catch as bait.

The lighthouse keeper will also sell two different lures that you can use to attract certain fish to your rod.

5 There are Three Different Rods

Like in most games that have fishing, you can get an assortment of different rods. You will start out with the weakest and most basic fishing pole, but can buy a nicer one for better catches, The only thing to keep in mind is that some fish are a lot easier to catch with the lower leveled rods.

Frogs, for example, are hard to catch with an excellent fishing rod, but the simple fishing rod will reel them in like it's nothing. Keep this in mind if you buy the best rod right away and are having trouble catching lower-tiered fish.

4 You Can Use Effects

If fishing just isn't your forte, then you can use a few different effects to help give you an edge. To gain these effects, you simply need to cook or buy certain fish related dishes to boost your stats. Fish nuggets allow you to increase your bobs threshold by a second so that it's harder to miss fish.

If you seem to have problems keeping the fish once you get it, then chow down on fish soup or baked fish. These items will make it harder for a fish to descent. Both of these effects will last exactly two minutes before canceling out.

3 The Clock Stops

One of the best things about fishing in Graveyard Keeper is the way the game handles time. Most tasks outside of using the pause menu will keep the games clock ticking forward. Fishing, however, will actually pause the clock when you go into the mini-game. This allows players the ability to take their time when trying to reel in a rare fish without having to worry about missing a visit from Snake.

The frozen clock can be used to your advantage to make more money in a day than you can by doing other tasks like foraging.

2 You Can Get Electric Powder

You will find that it can be hard to find alchemy ingredients without spending a small fortune at the witch's hut. Electric powder, in particular, can be a little more tricky to find than other items. Luckily this ingredient can actually be gained by fishing in both the sea and the swamp. All you need to do is catch an eel and then take them to your lab to grind into powder.

The Eel can be caught with any rod, but your best chance of catching this fish will be in the swamp during the day, especially if you are using a maggot as bait.

1 Blue and Red Fish

All fish are not equal in the meat they give, and this can make preparing certain dishes a pain. There are four types of meat that you can earn from fishing one is red or regular meat, one is white meat, the other is blue meat, and the final is regular meat like earned from bodies. Regular meat can only be gained from frogs while white meat fish are caught in the village pond.

Blue meat fish can be found in the waterfall, and red meat varieties are usually found swimming around in the river.
